Galway City

Creative, arty, bohemian, musical, whimsical, reflective, mad. Galway (Gaillimh) is one of Ireland's most entertaining and engaging cities.

The restaurants are buzzing, the pubs heaving with live music, and a recent surge in cafe culture offer front-row seats
to the always present buskers and street theatre.

Remnants of the medieval town walls can be found right next to the shopping area where you can buy handcrafted Claddagh rings, books and musical instruments.

Walk over ancient bridges which traverse the salmon-stuffed River Corrib, past the city cathedral and continue to Salthill where a long promenade leads you out onto Galway Bay the source of the area's famous oysters.

While it's steeped in history, the city buzzes with a contemporary vibe, thanks in part to students, who make up a quarter of the population for over half the year.

Its energy and creativity have seen it designated the European Capital of Culture in 2020.
